YOUR AUDIO SUCKS.
I can change that.
So, you’ve just finished recording your podcast on your £100 mic, or your AirPods, or your Lenovo 2010 Thinkpad built-in microphone (lol), but you’re wondering why your audio doesn’t quite sound the same as the top professionals. To put it bluntly, there’s a lot more work to be done to get the audio to sound like theirs. And a lot of people who say they know how to edit audio, really, really, don’t.
I’m the editor and mixer for Alex O’Connor (Cosmic Skeptic)’s Within Reason Podcast, and have edited audio for guests such as Neil deGrasse Tyson, Slavoj Zizek, William Lane Craig, Richard Dawkins, and more, totalling millions of streams on YouTube and Spotify. Audio can be a confusing space, with many claiming to know what they’re doing, but I have far too many examples of podcast and video audio that’s been “mixed”, but sounds somehow worse than the raw recordings. This is usually because most editors will slap on the same vocal preset they do for every video, even though pretty much every single unique recording requires very different treatment - even a difference of 2cm from the mic can warrant a very different approach. I could go on, but for now, I’ll let my clients do the talking:
Let’s be candid: no one wants to listen to noisy, unstable audio filled with mouth pops, clicks, and loud breaths. You want that good good crispy clean audio that presents you at your most authentic, convincing, and professional self. In my many years of editing I’ve come up with a variety of techniques that help me deal with all kinds of recording quality, whether it’s recorded on your iPhone microphone or a £1000 mic - you can be sure I’ll squeeze every last drop of quality out of your recordings.
but don’t take my word for it: here are some examples of my work:

Reading paragraphs of text is boring and I don’t want to make you do any more. So shoot me a message on instagram @charlieshanx, ping me an email at charlieqshan@gmail.com, or contact me here.
I’ll answer any questions you might have, give you some guidance and advice totally free of charge, and if I honestly think you’re just fine without my help - I’ll tell you. If you already have a video editor, even better. I can work with them directly so all you have to do is send off your project file to us, and we’ll sort the rest.
